During peacetime he joined the workers at Edinburgh's Royal Botanic Garden and thereafter moved to Singapore for approximately 20 or so years.
He became a world authority on custard apple and nutmeg plants. His friends and family members and visiting botanists have just celebrated his life at the opening of an exhibition at Hoy Kirk. He died young, aged just 54.
